Prof. (Dr.) Mohammed Istiaque Hossain graduated from Dhaka Medical College in 1979. Soon after graduation he started his career in Paediatrics under the supervision of Prof. M Q. K Talukder (FRCP, PhD), former Professor of Paediatrics at P.G. Hospital and Institution of Post Graduate Medicine & Research, Dhaka. He qualified in the oart 1 Fellowship in Paediatrics from Bangladesh College of Physicians & Surgeons in 1983 and continued working at P.G.  Hospital, Dhaka as Assistant Registrar in Paediatrics until he left Bangladesh for Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in 1984. He worked in Suleimaniah Children’s Hospital and Prince Salman Bin Abdul Aziz Hospital, two of the best teaching hospitals in Riyadh, KSA. He also had his training in Paediatrics at the Royal Hospital for Sick Children at Edinburgh and Royal Hospital for Sick Children in Glasgow. He is an elected Diplomate in Child Health of the Royal College of Physicians & Surgeons, Glasgow. He qualified for MRCP from UK and subsequently he was awarded the prestigious FRCP from the Royal College of Physicians, Edinburgh in 2003.

Prof. Istiaque has a long experience of over 30 years in Paediatrics and Child Health teaching hospitals at home and abroad. He was the pioneer of mobile blood transfusion system and breast milk bank in Bangladesh. He worked as Professor and Head of the Department of Paediatrics and Neonatology in Medical College for Women & Hospital, Uttara, Dhaka. He was also Professor and Head of the Department of Paediatrics in Holy Family Red Crescent Medical College & Hospital.

Prof. Istiaque Hossain is a life member of Bangladesh Red Crescent Society, Bangladesh Paediatric Association, Bangladesh Private Medical Practioners Association and many other social and professional organizations. He is was the former Senator of Dhaka University Senate. He was a Member, Governing body of Holy Family Red Crescent Medical College.

He has many publications in national and international reputed journals. He attended and presented papers in several national and international conferences
