Three new Consultants have joined Apollo Hospitals Dhaka in July 2010, namely: Dr. Muhammad Nazrul Islam (Senior Consultant – Nephrology & Kidney Transplantation), Dr. Md. Hafizur Rahman Ansary (Senior Consultant - Oncology), and Dr. Vinod Thampi (Consultant - Neurology).

Dr. Muhammad Nazrul Islam
MBBS, FCPS (Med.), MD (Nephrology)
Senior Consultant – Nephrology & Kidney Transplantation

Dr. Muhammad Nazrul Islam graduated from Sylhet M.A.G Osmani Medical College. He completed his FCPS in Medicine in 2001 from BCPS and MD in Nephrology in 2003 from Dhaka University. His experience spans more than 15 years in Nephrology. He has worked in institutes like BIRDEM, IPGMER, DMCH and BSMMU. He served as Associate professor in BSMMU and was associated with about 450 kidney transplantations. He has numerous national and international publications and many paper presentations to his credit. He is the author of a book “A Text on Renal Imaging in Clinical Practice,” the first Nephrology book to be published in Bangladesh.

Dr. Md. Hafizur Rahman Ansary
MBBS, DMRT
Senior Consultant – Oncology

Dr. Md. Hafizur Rahman Ansary graduated from Mymensingh Medical College in 1980 and did his DMRT in Radiation Oncology in 1990 from IPGMR Dhaka under Dhaka University. Dr. Ansary has served as Director and Professor at National Institute of Cancer Research & Hospital (NICRH) from August 2009 and to February 2010. After NCIRH, he joined as Professor, Radiation Oncology at Dhaka Medical College & Hospital. He has worked in the Department of Radiotherapy and Radiation Oncology in institutes like Dhaka Medical College & Hospital, National Institute of Cancer Research and Hospital, Chittagong Medical College, Sylhet Osmani Medical College, and Sher-e-Bangla Medical College in different capacities in the last 20 years.

Dr. Ansary has a rich experience in the latest Radiotherapy modalities and in the management of the latest Radiotherapy equipment. He has received intensive training in cancer patient management from different foreign institutions like Tata Memorial Hospital, Mumbai, India; National Cancer Institute, Singapore; MD Anderson Cancer Center, Texas, USA; etc. Dr. Ansary also has many national and international publications and paper presentations to his credit. He has participated in many national and international scientific conference and CME programs.

Dr. Vinod Thampi
MBBS, MD, DM (Neuro), MDHA
Consultant – Neurology

Dr. Vinod Thampi completed his MBBS, and then did MD in Medicine from the reputed Government Medical College & Hospital, Trivandrum, Kerala, India. Further, he completed DM in the year 2000. Dr. Thampi was in the service of Kerala Government and Kerala Medical Education Department since 2000. He has been in the teaching faculties at the Department of Neurology in Trivandrum, Calicut and Kottayam Government Medical Colleges & Hospitals, Kerala. He has been involved in training post-graduate medical students. Dr. Thampi has a MDHA in Hospital Administration and a PhD in Psychology from Prescott University, UK. He is experienced in hi-tech Neurodiagnostic environment, including SPECT. His areas of interests in Neurology are epilepsy, strokes, sexual dysfunctions, movement disorders, and Metabolic Neurology. He has a number of articles in reputed medical journals to his credit.

Before joining Apollo Hospital Dhaka, he was serving as Head of Neurology Department and Medical Director at Medical College & Hospital, Palakkad, Kerala.
