On July 19, for the first time in the Cath Lab of the Heart Centre of Apollo Hospitals Dhaka, a patient’s Congenital Atrial Septal Defect was closed by non-surgical procedures using 24mm ASD Device Closure. This birth defect in the septum in between two upper chambers (called atrium) of heart leads to undue mixing of oxygenated and deoxygenated blood resulting in improper oxygen supply to other parts of body. Consultants of Apollo Heart Centre Dr. A Q M Reza and Prof Dr. Shahab Uddin Talukder performed this non-surgical procedure through the femoral artery of groin (Transfemoral Approach).
